We are always on a lookout for young people who are interested in joining our peer talent pool. As a peer you will work with our participants to help us deliver the program. These are paid roles matched to your availability and skill.
You don’t need experience or have exceptional acting skills, as training will be provided. However, you do require good social communication skills, patience, and have a desire to work with children with ASD.
If you are younger than 16 years of age, your parents must complete a written consent form. Training will take place over 2 days (often held on Sundays to not interfere with school). The length of training days depends on the age and educational level of the children and youth in a group. Training covers autism, behavioural intervention techniques, and the SENSE Theatre approach. Video exemplars are used online and you will learn primary behavioural strategies used in the program that include, but not limited to:
POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
NONVERBAL CUES
REPETITION
VISUAL, VERBAL, AND PHYSICAL PROMPTS
SHAPING
MODELLING
EXTINCTION
REDIRECTION
You will also need to be prepared to commit to the entire program as continuity in participant/peer relationship is of paramount importance to the success of the program.
If you are interested in learning more about working with us as a peer, please send us a message and someone will be in touch with you shortly.
